How to add AI to your app in Nigeria
In short: Call an AI model from your server with the OpenAI SDK, keep the key out of your app, and handle the few errors that matter. With Bridge by Wekoya you pay for it in naira by bank transfer, and one key reaches GPT, Claude, Gemini and 90+ other models.

The steps
- Get a key: create an account, top up by bank transfer and create a key.
- Keep the key on your server, in an environment variable. Never put it in browser or mobile code.
- Call Bridge from a server route with the OpenAI SDK, as below.
- Handle errors: a 402 means out of money or over a limit, so show a friendly message; retry 429 and 5xx with a short wait.
- Stream the reply so people see it being written.
- Give each of your users a budget if they can trigger AI calls.
import OpenAI from "openai"
const bridge = new OpenAI({
apiKey: process.env.WEKOYA_API_KEY,
baseURL: "https://wekoya-api.wekoya.tech/v1",
})
export async function answer(question) {
const reply = await bridge.chat.completions.create({
model: "gpt-6-luna",
messages: [{ role: "user", content: question }],
})
return reply.choices[0].message.content
}Let your coding agent do it
Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other coding agents can add Bridge for you: give them the Bridge skill and ask for the feature. It tells the agent where the key goes, how to call Bridge and how to handle every error.
Common questions
Which model should I use for a chatbot?
Start with a fast, low-priced model where people wait for the answer, and stream it. The models page shows each model's price and abilities; test two or three on your own questions.
Can my mobile app call the AI directly?
Not with your API key. Your server makes a short-lived guest key for the signed-in user, with a spending limit, and the app uses that.
