# How to use the Claude API in Nigeria

**In short:** You can call Claude (Sonnet, Opus and Haiku) from Nigeria through Bridge by Wekoya and pay in naira by bank transfer, with no dollar card or Anthropic account. Bridge speaks the OpenAI format, so you use the OpenAI SDK with a Bridge key and a Claude model ID such as `claude-sonnet-5-5`.

## Set it up

1. [Create a free account](https://bridge.wekoya.tech/sign-up) with your email.
2. Open Billing in the console and top up your naira balance by bank transfer to your own account number.
3. Create a key under API keys. It starts with `wk_live_` and is shown once, so keep it somewhere safe.
4. Call Claude with the OpenAI SDK:

## What to know about Claude on Bridge

- Prompt caching is automatic: keep your instructions and tools at the start of the conversation and send one `prompt_cache_key` per conversation, and repeated parts are billed at the cached rate. See [prompt caching](https://bridge.wekoya.tech/docs/prompt-caching).
- Tool calling, streaming and pictures work in the OpenAI format. You do not need Anthropic's own SDK.

## Common questions

**Do I need an Anthropic account to use Claude in Nigeria?**

Not with Bridge. You call Claude with your Bridge key and pay Bridge in naira. Anthropic's own console sells prepaid credit by card.

**Which Claude model should I start with?**

Start with a mid-priced model such as Claude Sonnet for most work and try Claude Haiku where cost matters most. The table above has every Claude model and its price; test on your own examples before switching.

**Does the Anthropic SDK work with Bridge?**

Use the OpenAI SDK, or any OpenAI-compatible client. Bridge serves Claude in the OpenAI Chat Completions format and the Responses API.
